With a free font development web-app from FontShop called FontStruct, you can use some bricks and build a font. Some of us are in typography right now and are required to build one, but I’d like to see other members’ creations.

It’d be another thing to add to the store, which has been an epic fail so far. We couldn’t sell the fonts (nor do I think anyone would pay), but donations are an option.

A bit weird and almost creepy, this typeface uses eyelashes to form its characters!

Here’s the article Jacob mentioned at the meeting tonight. For those of you who weren’t there, it’s about type (as evident by the title), and it was written by Alan Haley, the chairperson for AIGA typography. Not a bad read especially for everyone in typography.

Inspiring Typography Tales (Smashing Magazine)

So, another great article from Smashing Magazine – hopefully this will be redundant to some of you (if you are subscribed to the RSS).

This one’s about ‘Inspiring Typography Tales’ and it is just that. In the article you’ll get a great little history lesson about a few typefaces, a look into the New York City Subway font choice (Helvetica), a bit about Zapf Dingbats, an awesome video collection of ‘opening titles’ from Kyle Cooper, AND…

wait for it…

…the history behind Comic Sans!

This was super interesting and quite the story I was not expecting. I’m not saying you don’t have to stop disliking it, just that you should have a better understanding of the reason it came to be.

And since I know you’re so interested, here’s what the creator, Vincent Connare says about his (mostly disliked) font.

My co-worker sent over a great link – it shows one letter from a movie poster title and you’re supposed to guess the movie from that letter!
