Camping Trip: New Information

Date: June 5-7, 2009
Where: Buffalo River National Park in Arkansas:
What we do: We’ll be renting canoes and doing a 3-day float down the river by day and setting camp/sleeping by the river at night.

What to Bring:

$60 per person for canoe rentals (Renting a canoe runs at $40 a day, or $20 per person a day (2 people to a canoe, for you non-girl/boy scouts) for three days, which is $60 for the whole weekend. See, we creative types can do math!)

Sleeping bag, Sunblock, Swim suit and shoes, Soap on a Rope (Ivory floats the best), Shampoo and other toiletries don’t forget Camping Toilet Paper!!

Food:

Canned food, sealed snacks, lots of water/gatorade/hydration!
If you’re bringing alcohol, remember: alcohol dehydrates, so bring other fluids as well, and nothing you bring should be encased in glass. Ever.

Bring metal cooking gear! Great for heating!

Handy Items:

Knife, small flashlight, sealable wet bags / garbage bags to keep things dry.

Think about bringing Camel packs, a hatchet or camp saw, a first aid kit or a camp shovel. These aren’t required, but they’re nice to have.

What We’re About (A Recap)

Every year, UG2 brings graphic design students together to better enable them for the design world outside of Louisiana Tech. Tutorials, workshops, studio tours (such as Mad Genius and Eyevox) and student conferences (DSVC, anyone?) are all within a UG2 member’s reach.

But we don’t always have our heads in front of our computer screens. We also know how to have fun. Lots of fun. UG2 hosts a cook out in the fall quarter and a canoe trip to Arkansas in June. Throw in some laser tag, (Jacob Cotton currently has a bounty on his head, if you can tag him, he’ll give you $25, he’s that good, apparently) and you’ll end up with an amazingly fun school year full of creativity, networking, and a wicked edge.

So how do we manage all this?

Member fees and fund raising are vital for UG2 to be able to give back to its members, mainly in the form of free rides and rooms at student conferences such as DSVC. Fees for each quarter are not all the same; it’s best to join in the fall when the fee is only $20. Winter quarter is steeper ($35), and spring is a staggering $120 (in preparation for DSVC).

So, join if you haven’t already. You’ll get a lot more than bonus points.
